Astara Calas is a Los Angeles–based interdisciplinary artist, composer, and musician working at the intersection of sound, consciousness, and immersive experience. Drawing from ambient and experimental music, Indian classical traditions, spiritual jazz, and ritual, she creates sonic worlds that explore the liminal space between the seen and unseen.

Her engagement with metaphysics began as a teenager with a practice of Transcendental Meditation, followed by a major in Eastern philosophy at the University of Colorado, where she studied with sound-healing pioneer Jonathan Goldman. She began her musical life in rock bands and later moved to Europe, where she lived and made records before returning to Los Angeles.

After a near-death experience, she became attuned to energy in a way that permanently altered her relationship to music and consciousness—an experience that remains an enduring current in her creative practice. Her exploration of these realms has also included study with Dolores Cannon and the practice of Cannon’s hypnosis method (QHHT) since 2012.

She is a core member of the experimental raga ensemble Liberate Elemental Forces and a co-founder of Elf, the long-running vegetarian restaurant and cultural fixture in Echo Park, Los Angeles.
